Welcome to Compassionate Conservation
This site offers a window on the emerging field of Compassionate Conservation, which aims to promote the consideration of animal welfare in a conservation context.
Animal Welfare in Conservation Practice
Since the groundbreaking Compassionate Conservation Symposium in Oxford in 2010, we have been working with a group of key individuals to develop the following Guiding Principles for Compassionate conservation. We hope that you will view our guiding principles and join us in signifying your support.
For too long, the fields of animal welfare and conservation have been regarded as separate concerns. A long-overdue initiative has started to draw these disciplines closer together with the aim of improving both animal welfare and conservation outcomes. Find out how Compassionate Conservation began.
The Virginia McKenna Award for Compassionate Conservation, sponsored by the Born Free Foundation, is intended to provide support and recognition for researchers, practitioners, organisations and projects that promote and develop the consideration of animal welfare in conservation practice.
